Adopt a Akita

Akita Dog

kiko the Dog needs a home

Foster home  write-up:

If I am remembering correctly, part of the reason she was surrendered was aggression towards other animals. On our walk today there was a Golden across the street that was doing some posturing as we were passing. She got a little excited, but it was definitely more of the, "I want to play" rather than "I want to go fight". During her house time tonight, I let her see E.V. and Trey through the closed (and locked) sliding door and she did not show any aggression towards them and a dog aggressive dog would have at least done something towards E.V. (another female and the top dog.) There is one thing that is hard for me to judge and it goes back to Chino (Kiko actually reminds me a little of him). Chino did fantastic with people that took charge and let him follow them, but did not do well with people that were timid around him and more or less made him take the lead. Because of that experience with Chino, I would probably recommend placing Kiko with owners who are going to be in charge and let her just be the dog.

Also, just so that you know, Lori really likes her and she seems to like Lori as well. Lori can walk by her crate and there has not been any aggressive body language. The three of us have been taking walks in the afternoon and other than trying to get Kiko to understand how to walk with the stroller so that she is not run into, we have not had any issues. Kiko is full of energy, so we have not let Lori and her play together just due to the fact that Kiko would knock her down and being swatted by a paw would hurt. I would probably not recommend that she be placed with a novice owner with young kids because I am not sure if that would be a good mix, but experienced owners with young kids might work (again, it all depends on the owners.)

Kiko is a very sweet dog and hopefully her shyness will dissipate with time, but the worse-case scenario is that she is shy with new people and loves on her family which is not a terrible situation.
